Caloundra Tri Survey Winner
Thursday, 04 March 2010

Congratulations to Geoff Oliver of Narangba who was the lucky winner of the ultimate Caloundra experience, including two night’s accommodation at Rydges Oasis Caloundra, $100 dinner voucher at Reflections Restaurant, and vouchers for Top Shots and Big Kart Track.

Geoff regularly competes in the Gatorade QLD Tri Series after his first tri three years ago, which coincidentally was also the Caloundra Triathlon, and also the start of his weight-loss journey.

“I love doing the tris full stop.  I do it as a weight loss thing; it has changed my whole life.  I’ll never win, never get a medal, but it’s so much fun!”

“I used to be morbidly obese and then three years ago one December a friend suggested I do the Caloundra Triathlon.  I said what’s a triathlon?  He said it’s a swim, bike ride and a run.  And I said we’ve got three problems – I don’t know how to swim, I don’t have a bike and I can’t run!”

‘But two months of hard work and I got there.  I did doggy paddle for most of the swim, I forgot to put a water bottle on my bike, so I had no water in the ride and then I walked most of the run leg.  But I got there and I enjoy the tris so much.”

Geoff was happy to share his story and hopes his journey can inspire others to get out there and give it a go.  He’s looking forward to the Grand Final at the Gold Coast on April 18, but is dreading the swim leg because he’s never swum 750m before!  Good luck Geoff, and enjoy your prize.
